Hubei's provincial abbreviation,"E",originates from the city Ezhou,which used to be the hometown of the Chu Kindom and the capital of the Wu Kingdom.It was also in Ezhou that Sun Quan laid the foundation of the Kingdom of the Wu(222 A.D.-280 A.D.).A history of over 4,000 years has given Ezhou rich cultural connotations.
Ezhou is both an ancient city and a modern one under the jurisdiction of the Huber provincial government .It is 1,504 square kilometers in size and has a population of 1.3 million.
The city is one of the major river and land transportations hubs in eastern Huber.It consists of three districts:Echeng,Liangzihu and Huarong.
During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period ,Xiong Qu,one of the Kings of the Chu Kingdom,gave his son,Xiong Hong,the land of Ezhou and appointed him the king of E.Xiong Hong built his captial city there and named it "the city of the King of E".
Ezhou is an environmentally beautiful city with hunderds of lakes.The turbulent Yangtze River surrounds the city like a dragon.The dotted lakes are like beaded jade decorating the city.
Many cultures and traditions are blended here,such as the Three Kindoms and Chu culture.
Ezhou is famous for its bronze mirrors,and the Wuchang fish.It'sone of the first pilot areas for reform and opening up in Hubei Province.
Ezhou is a modern port city full of dynamism.Relying on the advantage of being in the geographical center of Central China,it is known as Hubei's eastern gateway and a traffic hub.Ezhou Civil Airport will be built into Asia's largest cargo airport.The e-commerce base of Gedian Economic and Technological Development Zone is also expecting rapid development.Ezhou will gradually become a window for opening up the central region of China.
Ezhou won the honorary title of the "National Health City" in June 2017 and "the Best Investment City in Central China"on August 18,2017.
