[ Topography]   The terrain of Ezhou is high in the southeast, low in the northwest, and flat in the middle; with 485.8 meters elevation, "Sifeng Mountain” marks the highest point of the city, and "Liangzi Lake”, the lowest point, registered an elevation of 11.7 meters. There are four types of geomorphological forms: the Yangtze River alluvial terraces in the north (Baihu Town - Linjiang) and the east (Yanji - Yangye); hills in the east and the east side of the south (Baizhi Mountain, Fengjianzi Mountain and Zaoshan Mountain); hill-shaped plains in the north and the west side of the south, with about 90 meters  elevation; stagnant water lacustrine plains in the middle (Liangzi Lake, Ya'er Lake, Sanshan Lake, and Yanglan Lake, traversing the central region of Ezhou).

[ Hydrology ] Running from Baihu Mountain in Wuhan, the Yangtze River passes through Ezhou City. On the left bank, it is adjacent to Xinzhou, Huanggang and Xishui counties, using the middle of the river as their borders. On the right bank, the Yangtze River passes Mu'e Port, Huangjiaji and Zhaojiaji, Niji, Sanjiangkou, Huangbaishan, Fankou, Panlongji, Wuzhanggang, Longwangji, Yanji, and exits Ezhou at Huamahu Drought and Flood Control Station (Lijiawan), entering the border of Huangshi. The flow path is 77.5 kilometers in Ezhou.

The width of Yangtze River in Ezhou City varies, and the single and curved river sections are usually narrow. The minimum river width is 870 meters, and the maximum is 8,000 meters. Due to the abundant water of the Yangtze River and the long flood season, on multi-year average, the flood season in Ezhou is from May to October, and the dry season is from February to March. The average annual water level of the Yangtze River in Ezhou is 17.20 m, the average annual rate of flow is 23,800 cubic meters per second, the annual average sediment concentration is 0.586 kg / m3, and the annual average sediment transport is 430 million tons.

Changgang River is an artificially waterway excavated based on the Liangzi Lake Drainage Port. The port is 60-110 meters wide and 4-6 meters deep. It is mainly used to regulates the water levels of Liangzi Lake, Ya'er Lake and Sanshan Lake, with a total flow of 214 cubic meters/s.

There are 133 lakes in Ezhou, with a water area of 49,700 hectares, and 52 lakes are included in the two batches of protection lists in the province. Liangzi Lake is the largest lake in Hubei Province, the central lake in Wuhan urban circle, and the strategic backup water source in eastern Hubei; it is also one of the best-preserved freshwater lakes in China.
